Privacy Policy

AIDLC.io is a reference site with no accounts, no advertising and nothing for sale. It collects very little: anonymous usage statistics, and whatever you choose to send through the contact form. This page says exactly what, why, and for how long.

The Short Version

  • Reading the site requires nothing from you. There are no accounts, no sign-ups and no paywall.
  • Google Analytics 4 measures which pages are read, so the content can improve. It does not identify you by name.
  • The contact form delivers your message to the maintainer's inbox. The relay that carries it keeps no copy of your name, email address or message.
  • No advertising, no ad networks, no data sales, and no sharing with anyone for marketing.
  • Your theme choice is stored in your own browser and never leaves it.

Who Is Responsible

AIDLC.io is written and maintained by RJ Lindelof, who decides what the site collects and is responsible for it under this policy. Privacy questions and requests go through the contact form - choose any topic and say it is a privacy request. That form is the site's only contact channel.

Usage Statistics

What is collected

Every page loads Google Analytics 4, a measurement service run by Google. It records events such as page views, scrolling, outbound link clicks and site searches, together with technical details: the page and the page you came from, your browser and device type, screen size, language, and an approximate location at city or country level.

Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. The location is derived from the address at the time of the request and the address is then discarded.

Cookies it sets

Google Analytics stores first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) so it can tell a returning browser from a new one. They hold a random identifier, not your name or email address.

These are the only cookies the site sets. Nothing else on the site is used for tracking, profiling or advertising.

Why it is used

To learn which pages people actually read, which ones they leave quickly, and what they search for - so the next round of edits goes where it helps. The reports are only ever read in aggregate, and the data is never used to advertise to you.

How long it is kept

Google keeps event-level data for the retention period set on the analytics property - two or fourteen months for a standard property - and then deletes it. Aggregated reports, which contain no per-visitor data, can be kept longer.

Opting Out of Analytics

The site works fully without analytics. Any of these stops the measurement:

  • block cookies for this site in your browser settings;
  • use a content blocker or a browser with tracking protection turned on;
  • install Google's own Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which stops Google Analytics on every site.

The Contact Form

What you send

Your name, your email address, the topic you pick and your message. The email address is used only to reply to you. Nothing is added to a mailing list, and you will not receive anything you did not ask for.

The spam check

Before the form sends, a bot-protection service checks that a person is submitting it. To do that it receives your IP address and technical signals from your browser. It returns a pass or fail; it does not receive your message.

Where it goes

A small relay turns the form into an email and delivers it to the maintainer's inbox. The relay stores no copy. Its operational log records only which site the message came from, the topic and whether delivery succeeded, and that log is deleted after three days.

The email itself stays in the maintainer's mailbox for as long as the conversation is useful. Ask through the same form and it will be deleted.

What Stays in Your Browser

A few settings are kept in your browser's own storage so the site behaves the way you left it. None of them is sent anywhere:

  • Theme. Your light or dark choice, kept until you clear site data.
  • Search context. When you open a result from site search, the term you searched for is held briefly so the page can highlight it, then removed. It lasts only for the browser tab.
  • Display state. Small counters that keep rotating content in order during a visit, cleared when the tab closes.

Like every website, the servers that deliver these pages briefly process your IP address in order to send them to you. Apart from the analytics script and the contact page's spam check, every font, script and image loads from the site itself rather than from a third-party network.

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, privacy law may give you the right to ask what personal data a site holds about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used. The only personal data this site can connect to you is a message you sent through the contact form, so a request through the contact form covers it. Analytics data is held by Google under a random identifier the site cannot tie to a person; the opt-out steps above stop it being collected.

The site is written for working engineers and engineering leaders and is not directed at children.

Changes to This Policy

If the site starts collecting something new, this page changes first and the "Last updated" date at the top moves with it. Content updates across the rest of the site are listed on What's New.
